Instructions to make Borsch/Борщ (beet soup):
- Ingredients.
- Slice an onion and a carrot.
- Slice beets. Keep the soup in the can.
- Dice beef and stir fry it lightly with tallow. Add salt and pepper if you like.
- Put beef in a bowl and stir fry sliced onion and carrot until the colour changes.
- Ad water and beef consommé(600ml in total) and boil it for 30mins-1h.
- Add sour cream and dill weed. Squeeze a lemon if you like. Bon appétit!
Contrary to popular belief, Russians don't spell their beetroot soup borscht (that's a Yiddish spelling) and it's really not a Russian invention (the Ukrainians claim it as theirs). Borscht (aka Borsch) is a sour soup with beetroots as one of the main ingredients, which gives the dish a vibrant red color.
